Give the prototype a specific job
A first prototype can test shape, fabric behavior, padding, elastic tension or assembly. Identify the highest-risk question in the brief and distinguish temporary materials from the intended production materials. A shape sample using substitute fabric can help review proportions, but it cannot approve the final hand feel, shade or finish.
Record revisions before approving a production reference
Keep a dated sample version, annotated photos and one list of requested changes. Mark each point as accepted, requiring revision or still awaiting a material decision. Before using a sample as the production reference, confirm the final construction, measurements, materials, labels and packing instructions. Sample approval does not place a bulk order; quantities, inspection scope and commercial terms need their own approval.

Can textile prototyping start from a reference image?
Yes. We first clarify intended use, dimensions, materials and the question the sample should answer. Any artwork, pattern or tech-pack development needed before sample making is identified in the quote.
Does the first prototype use final production materials?
That depends on the agreed sample objective and material availability. Any substitutions should be recorded. A prototype with substitute fabric cannot approve the final material feel, shade or finish.
How are sample changes and extra rounds handled?
Feedback is recorded against a named sample version. The quote defines included rounds; additional revisions, materials or delivery costs are agreed before the extra work begins.
Does sample approval commit me to a bulk order?
No. A production order requires separate agreement on the approved specification, quantity, quality checks, payment stages and shipping arrangements. You can commission sampling before deciding whether to continue.
